The Renault-Nissan- Daimler alliance

Two global giants have joined forces to help each other to survive the economic downturn and also to meet the stringent requirements of European Commission rules on pollution.

On April 7, the Franco-German alliance has become operational, drawing on older business partner of the Renault, the Japanese company Nissan. Grounds of the Renault-Nissan-Daimler merger are clear and have been mentioned so Ghosn and the Zetsche: cut costs by using common components, and performance standards of pollution that will come into force in 2012. Only that, besides these two very important goals, the three partners are certainly planning other objectives, more or less visible at this time.

Renault brand seems to have most to gain from this collaboration. Already announced future assembly Renault Smart for Four in the Novo Mesto solves a part of the problem facing overcapacity. .Daimler may, turn through acquisition of low-emission engines from Renault to approach the target imposed by the European Commission in this regard. More importantly, french science of building small cars can save the Smart brand from disaster , which is very close to becoming a bottomless bag for Daimler . As collaboration with Nissan, it is clear that specialization in the battle may be of great use 4X4 models of the Mercedes field. The Japanese advance in electric propulsion is very important for Daimler.

Most analysts now think that, despite the sad experiences DaimlerChrysler, the new concentration Renault-Nissan-Daimler merger could bring significant financial gain for the three brands. Ghosn has already announced that it expects cost reductions of around two billion euros over the next five years, and Zetsche is at least as optimistic. If we think that the market value of the concentration is composed from 78 billion and combined sales exceeding 6.5 million units, it is easy to guess that the negotiations with business partners will be worn by the position of force.

Announced two years ago, the automotive industry concentration phenomenon is more visible. After Fiat -Chrysler, Vokswagen- Suzuki and Ranault-Nissan-Daimler, it seem that the next move will be undertaken by BMW and PSA Peugeot-Citroen group.
